Neblinas del Pacífico

Neblinas del Pacífico is a band of marimba de chonta music, a tradition born and rooted among the Black and Indigenous communities nestled along rivers and mangroves in the Pacific Coast of Colombia and Ecuador. It’s music of ancestors and everyday life, roots and rebellion, celebration and resistance, polyrhythms and multi-part harmonies.
The band is based in the Mission District of San Francisco, and has roots in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Indonesia, China, and the US.
Neblinas del Pacífico features Federico Ardila, Pipe Arrechea, May-Li Khoe, Juliana Mejía, Erika Padilla-Morales, Stephanie Reist, and Andrés Reyes on marimba de chonta, bombos, cununos, guasás, and vocals.
“Combining polyrhythmic percussion of Colombia's marimba de chonta tradition with a political, yet intimate spirit, Neblinas del Pacífico will have you dancing to the beat of meanings old and new. Longer after you listen, their music will return you to a time and place when the artificial and dangerous distinction between the 'musical' and the 'political' never existed. A bailar se ha dicho.” – Roberto Lovato
